Injection assistance

STA Community Nursing nurse preparing a client’s upper arm for an injection

From insulin and anticoagulant injections to other prescribed medications, our nurses provide safe, accurate injection administration at home. We follow your GP or specialist’s care plan closely, monitor for any reactions, and keep clear records so your treatment stays on track.

What our nurses do

  • give injections exactly as prescribed by your doctor or specialist
  • check the medicine, dose and timing against your prescription
  • watch for any reaction after an injection
  • keep clear records of every injection
  • let your GP or specialist know if something changes

Injections and your wider care

Injections often sit alongside other parts of your treatment. See our medication management and chronic disease management services, or visit Diabetes Australia for information about living with diabetes.

When to get help

If you notice swelling, a rash or other changes after an injection, tell your nurse or doctor. If you have trouble breathing or think you may be having a severe allergic reaction, call 000.

Injection assistance: questions

Do I need a prescription?

Yes. Your injections need to be prescribed by your doctor or specialist, and our nurses follow that plan.

How often can the nurse visit?

It depends on your treatment. Tell us what has been prescribed and when, and we will talk through a visit schedule that fits.
