PEG feeding
For clients who require enteral nutrition, our nurses provide safe and skilled PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy) feeding support — including feed administration, site care, and monitoring for complications. We work closely with your dietitian and medical team to ensure your nutritional needs are met safely.
How our nurses can help
- giving feeds as prescribed by your medical team
- caring for the tube site and the skin around it
- monitoring for complications
- explaining what we are doing, so you and your family feel informed
- keeping your dietitian and doctor updated
Working with your dietitian
Your feeding plan is set by your medical team and dietitian, and our nurses follow it. If you would like to see a dietitian, look at our dietitian service or find an accredited practising dietitian through Dietitians Australia.
When to get help
Contact your doctor or nurse promptly if your tube becomes blocked or comes out, the skin around it becomes red, swollen or is leaking, or you have a fever, vomiting or new pain. In an emergency, call 000.
PEG feeding: questions
Do you set my feeding plan?
No. Your feeding plan comes from your medical team and dietitian. Our nurses deliver it safely and let them know about any concerns.
